I just upgraded my internet to 1Gbps and set up an Ethernet from the router to my PC. I also want to connect my Xbox via Ethernet instead of another cable. It would be better to purchase a switch rather than run extra cables. My connection speeds are 1Gbps down and 40Mbps up. What switches do you recommend? You mentioned Netgear and TP Link are good options. I don’t want to spend more than $30. Here are some models I’ve looked at: the link from Amazon.

Certainly, the Netgear model will function perfectly.

As long as your chosen switch supports 10/100/1000 Mbps and isn’t a hub, it should work well.

They're still being made and available at retail outlets. I'm not sure about the reason, but they still serve purposes in specialized areas.

I've been working on networking for a firm that builds building automation systems. Many of the parts I interacted with relied solely on broadcast packets. With devices that are sensitive to even slight delays in packet delivery, using a hub instead of a switch makes more sense because the hub handles all traffic without needing to process each MAC address.

Yet another explanation for why they remain unchanged is something I hadn't considered before.
