Network Speed Limit
Network Speed Limit
I have many gigabit switches in my network, and one of my computers is connected to it. My usual speed is 200 Mbps, but when I put a router between the modem and switch (which connects to the computer), the speed drops to 100 Mbps max. It could be because the router has a 100 Mbps port, but I don’t want to use it for routing traffic. My router only needs to broadcast the Wi-Fi network with the same SSID and password as before. How can I stop the router from limiting the internet speed on that computer?
The 100mbps ports are restricting your performance. The fix is simple: restart the modem, connect your PC to it, then connect the router to the modem. This changes the network infrastructure. Placing the router on the switch adds another device without altering the core connection.
This seems confusing. The main idea of a Switch is that what connects to one port shouldn’t affect the other. Are you certain the device isn’t mistakenly linking to the router’s network?
Because my device can't use Wi-Fi, I set it up as an access point and shared the same SSID and password as the modem. Are these issues occurring?
