That's certainly concerning, as when routers/gateways have this problem its usually specific NICs and putting a switch in the middle is the solution. If it wont even keep the connection to a switch, its fatally flawed and I can't see any way to fix it other than moaning at them until they find a unit that actually works.
Additional updates: I had my development team/IT working remotely and explored various configurations. We experimented with many options but still faced random Ethernet drops. I contacted AT&T again, and instead of sending another technician to replace the router, a service representative reset it to factory settings remotely, noting that having two routers in a row with identical issues is unlikely. They also removed the DHCP server setup we had implemented. Suddenly everything resolved. I tested for several hours without any device losing connection. My VPN appears functional, though my dev team warns me there could be future problems if the DHCP assigns an IP matching the VPN server. I was curious how adjusting the DHCP range and router address led to this issue. It seems the fix worked, so I won’t change anything now. Surprisingly effective, though it’s odd that this resolved it.
