Hotspots, whether a portable router or a phone, should run the latest firmware. Verify it's current if possible. If both support 5GHz, change the Hotspot to use that band instead of 2.4GHz. This adjustment should be available in the Hotspot settings menu. You might also find an option for Protected Management Frames; disable it on the Hotspot side since some devices struggle with it.
