I've checked the connection between my PC and modem, and the TP Link TL-SG1008D is running version 5.1. Usually I only reach around 9Mbit/s, which isn’t great. I thought the auto-negotiation ports might handle speeds from 10Mbps up to 1000Mbps smoothly. Since it’s not a managed switch, I’m unsure how to improve this. Any advice or tips would be helpful—I don’t want to replace everything just because it doesn’t seem to work well.

I'm checking how fast your connection is by running a speed test online, like on Google.

Have you explored another cable option? Is your modem compatible with gigabit internet?

Confirming your expectations. Please share the anticipated speeds and any testing you've done with other devices.

I checked the speed using speedtest.net. The results match when downloading games from Steam, movies, etc. I've used various cables without changing anything. My connection gives 9.4Mbps up and down. When it works, I see a 500 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, which is what I pay for. This issue appears on both my laptop and desktop.

Have you experienced no problems by removing the switch? Have you also checked the connection between the modem and the switch? If yes, the switch might be defective.

Issue may lie with the faulty switch or could stem from the ISP. Consider verifying your LAN status—it should display 1.0 Gbps as shown below. This indicates the device is automatically adjusting its local LAN speed based on the connection it uses. Older equipment typically only supports Ethernet or Fast Ethernet, which is why auto-negotiation is common now. Such functionality is standard on most switches today.

The speed matches what the modem requires. Proceed with the new switch. Avoid searching for any restrictions beyond "speed controll."

It's possible the router is the issue even with good Wi-Fi speeds.

The router features 4 connections. One connects to the TV-box and another links to the switch, which has 8 ports.
