Network latency steadily rising over time
Network latency steadily rising over time
Hello Everyone, I've tried various driver versions and hardware setups, but the problem keeps happening. After a fresh start into Windows 10, my connection to the local gateway is only 3ms. There are three hops totaling under 150 miles between each switch. Testing on different devices shows less than 1ms at each switch. On my system I'm using MS! AX88 with an AMD A7 and 32GB RAM. I also have three monitors running alongside the built-in Radeon. So far, no changes in firewall, registry, or browser cache settings have helped. The biggest issue seems to come from a VoIP service—audio keeps getting choppy. I'm hoping you can suggest any fixes or updates that might resolve this. Thanks in advance, Ed
Are all readings taken through a direct hardline or Ethernet link into the network? Do you have any wireless equipment? Are other devices like smartphones, tablets, or IoT devices connected as well? Having a diagram of your network setup with specific hardware models would be helpful. Are your Ethernet connections intact, without damage or sharp bends, and properly terminated with RJ45 connectors? SmallNetBuilder shared a detailed guide on WiFi ping spikes and fixes. If your network is fully wired, you likely won't face these issues, but even partial WiFi use could benefit from the advice. It might indicate you should focus on prioritizing VoIP traffic on your router. Check your router's QoS settings.
The network has numerous Wi-Fi devices connected, but all switches operate at 1 gigabit speed. There are no Wi-Fi adapters present on the device.
This device could be connected directly to the network, but it’s using the same network that many wireless clients are tapping into. The wireless devices or access points might be the source of the issue. WiFi essentially acts as a bridge to a wired connection. Is this typical for a home environment or a business setting? A 150-foot Ethernet link between switches seems unusually long for a residential setup. What’s going on here?
