The ping checks to your modem and Google are normal, along with the trace route to Google. The * in line 6 suggests you didn’t get a reply from the first round trip (each column shows RTT: round trip time from your computer to the destination and back, repeated three times). This might point to packet loss. I’d run the ping test in the background while you play games so you can see what’s happening at the moment any issues appear.
Currently I’m using the new modem they provided me today because the old one couldn’t support the internet speed I need. My connection used to be 100 Mbps, but it dropped to 200 Mbps—though I suspect the upgrade itself caused the change. At first, it felt like a bottleneck.
The ISP is talking about DOCSIS specifications. The latest versions allow more channels to connect for gigabit performance. Right now it seems DOCSIS 3.1 is still in use. I’m only getting 100Mbps, but used to receive 60Mbps a few years back. Back then I rented the modem from Comcast. I thought they upgraded their network, making my older 8-year-old device less useful. After switching to an ARRIS SURFboard SB8200, I immediately got 120Mbps and have kept that speed ever since.
