Damn, is this exclusive to echo devices or could it work with things like the Fire Tablet too? These units don’t really need high speed since they’re just smart switches, but with the signal dropping to 60% at times it’s significantly lower than others. There were a few instances where the signal hit 0% last night, but I had just rebuilt the network, so it might have been due to a fresh setup. My earlier configuration (before I accidentally lost everything during a PC reset and forgot to back up) looked quite stable. The main drawback of using the software controller is...?

It might work, though linking another AP through Ethernet could help.

Unfortunately, inserting an Ethernet cable here requires drilling. What are your opinions on fire tablets, separate or integrated on the main WAN?

I would imagine the potential is there for any device that has a microphone that accepts user vocal commands and has laser line-of-sight.

Only if wake commands are enabled. In reality, I wouldn't rely on smart gadgets for anything confidential. I disable purchases on my Echo Show and avoid using it to unlock doors or similar functions. The fact that it picks up TV signals or random speech makes it quite risky for security concerns. It seems absurd that someone would think using a cloud service or voice control for door access is safe, especially given the examples shown in those exploit videos.
