Hello everyone, back in 2009 I assembled a PC. Since then I haven’t made one again, but I’m considering building one later this year once new graphics cards become available. On my previous machine I had a Netgear WG111 v3 USB wireless adapter that performed well, and I found it hidden away. If I decide to construct a new system, would that device still fit? I no longer have the driver installation disc (that’s clear), but I can easily download the newest drivers onto a USB drive. If you’re not keen on this setup, what’s the most affordable reliable method to connect a PC to Wi-Fi these days? I’m particularly interested in budget options – I’m aiming for around £1000 by taking advantage of Black Friday or Christmas sales. Below is a rough list of the components I was using: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3300X 3.8 GHz Quad-Core (£160.43 at Overclockers.co.uk); Motherboard: ASRock B450M Pro4-F Micro ATX AM4 (£68.79 at CCL Computers); RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 (£60.99 on Amazon UK); Storage: Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME SSD (£67.98 on Amazon UK); Graphics: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB GAMING OC (£268.98 on Amazon UK); Case: Cougar MX330-G ATX Mid Tower; Power Supply: Corsair CV 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified; Fan: ARCTIC F12 PWM 53 CFM 120 mm (£5.48 at AWD-IT); Monitor: AOC 24G2U/BK 24.0" 1920x1080 144 Hz (£189.95 on Amazon UK); Keyboard: FNATIC miniSTREAK RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard; Mouse: SteelSeries Rival 3 Wired Optical; Headphones: Kingston HyperX Cloud Stinger (£39.99 on Amazon UK). Thanks ahead of you.

For the love of GOD. That adapter is wireless G. NO JUST NO. You're spending all this money on this nice machine and you're going to install the crappiest of the crap WiFi adapters in it? Come on. Look at PCIe cards and look for Wireless AC. While this USB adapter might work. There is a big chance you don't have Windows 10 drivers. Theres also a big chance it might not work with your current router.

Find a PCIe wireless adapter meeting at least 802.11ac standards. Plan ahead and allocate funds for a quality option.

Thanks for your feedback. I’m considering options that offer strong download speeds and support for online gaming. The link you shared appears to point to a product page, which could be useful for comparison.

That’s a no name brand I have never heard of. WiFi and gaming shouldn’t really be used in the same sentence, but I guess that card would work. No promises for performance. But it’s AC, so it should theoretically be enough. But it also depends on games, if they are competitive FPS titles then WiFi is not a good choice, if they are more laid back games, then you should have much issues.
