I’m trying to understand how to use DDWRT on my Netgear R8000 and whether there’s a guide explaining the best configurations. The many options can be confusing, so I’d appreciate any clear instructions you can provide.

You can check the DD-WRT forums and Wiki via the links provided, or opt for https://advancedtomato.com/ for a more intuitive interface if DD-WRT feels overly complex. Neither is superior—they both grant access to features absent in the original firmware. I previously used DD-WRT before switching to AdvancedTomato; though I still use a few routers with it, I find the latter more user-friendly.

Usually custom firmware leads to slower performance rather than improvement, since it lacks the built-in speed enhancements found in standard firmware. It focuses on extra features instead of optimal speed.

I gave it my all and replaced the router—it’s the worst one I’ve had, and I’ll never purchase another Netgear model again. Now I’m using an Asus AC86U, and everything is back to normal.
