It's quite straightforward as the title suggests. I have a 4K monitor and connected to a laptop via an 2080 Super Display Port. When I watch 4K movies on Netflix using the Windows app, it correctly displays 4K Ultra HD. However, once it starts playing, it freezes at 1080p with a bitrate around 2609, regardless of resolution changes. The connection speed is 200Mbps, which isn't a major concern. I accessed Netflix through MS Edge and played the same title from the "Continue Watching" section; it worked smoothly in 4K after about five seconds of buffer, even at lower resolutions. I'm unsure if this is due to DRM or HDCP restrictions, as Edge seems to handle 4K playback well. If you have any insights, please share your thoughts. Thank you in advance for your help!

Essentially, DRM and Windows are clashing here. The fix is to try the app or edge if one isn't functioning. It's frustrating because this behavior is completely unpredictable. This situation mirrors an old DRM story—where customers face issues and pirates remain unaffected.

I face the same problem but using Edge rather than the app: 4K Ultra HD appears but plays at 1080p maximum. The issue appears to impact all 4K content encoded at 12 Mbps. I can still view that content in 4K within the Netflix app, though the audio seems slightly misaligned. So the only solution is using Edge. In my setup, it's a 4K monitor connected via HDMI to a laptop running 1050ti.
