ASRock's inspection process might need improvement. The threaded inserts for the CPU cooler on a board I own have problems—some fell out completely, others were forced at an angle. It seems the instructions weren't clear enough to follow properly. These parts likely stick in place with adhesive rather than being securely fastened. Look for reliable sources that explain proper installation steps.
No backplate, it's a thread insert that the cooler screws to. It's a NUC I'm modifying. It's a BOX-155H, Ultra 7 155H that I've been using for OPNsense. It's had a few cores that run really hot though, which got me to looking into it some.
