Hello there, I hope my question is clear. If not, feel free to adjust it so I can ask properly. To start, hello! I’m looking for advice on a combo motherboard (EATX) CPU setup around 700€. I’m unsure whether AMD or Intel is better for me right now. I currently have a Rampage 10 Anniversary edition paired with an i7-6850K CPU, 8*2 GBs of 2133MHz memory, and plan to replace the RAM later. I know 2133 MHz isn’t ideal—actually it’s 3333—but one of the stickers says it works fine at its clock speed. I mainly use it for gaming, VMs, and rendering, with a Lian Li Lancool Digital EATX (2070 Super) and an efficient Noctua cooler. I also need to know what SSD specs I should get since I enjoy overclocking. A good BIOS would be helpful. Thank you in advance for your time!
just because you're dealing with an e-atx setup doesn't require an e-atx motherboard—they're uncommon. opt for a standard ATX board instead. meanwhile, amd has just rolled out the ryzen 5000 line, aiming to surpass intel in gaming performance. based on your budget, you can likely find the 5900x and a solid x570 board, such as the asus tuf or msi tomahawk.

E-ATX refers to a broader form factor, similar to an extra pair of fingers wide. MATX offers only two PCIe slots, while ATX provides 5 to 6 slots. SLI or Crossfire compatibility is feasible with standard ATX boards. The x570 model enables splitting the PCIe X16 into two PCIe X8 channels, making SLI viable if you choose motherboards that support it. However, SLI is largely obsolete; future NVIDIA graphics cards won’t support it, and newer cards don’t include connectors for it. Limiting options here isn’t necessary. For wireless devices, any PCIe slot works, allowing easy adaptation of an X1 slot for a wireless card. Opt for a solid B550 or x570 board—some B550 models outperform x570 in hardware quality. Keep an eye on the market for a 5900X processor or similar in that price range.

x570 offers more PCIe 4 lanes, which isn't crucial for everyday users. This information comes from MSI's website. For those who require greater power and flexibility beyond the B550 platform, MSI's X570 boards are the perfect option. If your needs include using over 4 USB 3.1 devices, more than 6 SATA devices, or more than 3 Gen 4 M.2 SSDs, the X570 platform stands out.
