I'm working on upgrading from an A10 9700 to a Ryzen 5 5600G. My current BIOS is version 56, but I can't see more details. I need BIOS version 6042, though only my old CPU will fit there. Upgrading to 6042 on my old board would disable it, which isn't a big deal for me. The error says the BIOS won't update past 56, making it impossible to use the new CPU even though it's listed on my motherboard. The ASUS PRIME A320M-R board is supported, but I'm stuck. Can you help fix this issue?

You're certain the downloaded BIOS matches your system? Double-check the motherboard model to avoid mix-ups.

You're certain about your choice? It looks like you've already upgraded once and are limited to the version before your older CPU was taken out of support.

If the bios is accurate and the system is simply slow, you can trigger a flash and even crossflash the BIOS using the SPI header on your motherboard. This avoids needing to enter BIOS settings and also protects against bricked issues. Just require a ch341a and some Dupont male-to-female jumper wires. The component is near the CMOS battery under the section labeled "UEFI BIOS." The header isn’t clearly marked. Here’s the pin configuration. If you want to try crossflashing, you can flash to a Prime B350M-A to unlock OC, as the board designs are very similar—safe to do if you’re confident about your setup. Prioritize fixing the hardware first.

basically just ignore that messy bios file stuff. use the built-in flash tool that comes with the flash utility, connect it through the SPI header, and it’s pretty simple. i do this regularly because my boards have SPI headers or I’ve adapted to boards without them. if you’re not sure about the SPI setup, go straight to a bios tester.
