The Mobile and APU chips are consistently labeled 1000 units higher than their desktop counterparts. The 4X00g "Renior" APUs will run on Zen 2, and official details about them should appear at CES in roughly a month. Even though BIOS support wasn't available until the Zen 2 release, you still need a Ryzen 3000 compatible motherboard. If you have a 2200g or 2400g chipset, you already possess a CPU that can be upgraded to a more capable board later. The performance gap between 2200 and 3200 isn't as significant as the improvements from modest overclocking. Focus on finding RAM at the highest possible speed. For models targeting 3200 or higher, check the box for "Ryzen 3000 Ready" – MSI b450/x470 are promoted as MAX models, while other brands require verification via photos. If buying in person, look for signs of a pre-applied Zen 2 BIOS on the packaging. The Ryzen 2000 and Ryzen 3000 Ready markings appear similar, but the 2000 versions are all black, whereas 3000 models come in orange and silver.
