People used to think updating BIOS was risky, but your new system with a dedicated USB port and the ASUS EZ Flashback 3 feature makes it safer. You can update via USB stick or online, depending on your needs.

It might be useful if you reside in a region with frequent power interruptions, making a UPS a wise purchase to avoid losing power during BIOS updates. Certain premium motherboards include a dual BIOS chip to handle failures and corruption, allowing you to switch between BIOS versions safely—unless you use a specific programmer tool like the ch431a. I’d favor a USB thumb drive over an online installation because you’re unsure which version you’ll be applying through the internet.

Only five dollars. Even without a clear SPI header or an unclear pin configuration, troubleshooting a faulty BIOS flash remains challenging because those generic test clips aren't very accurate. I'll attempt to fix it and find out if it actually works or if it's just a waste of time.

Never experienced a lack in my 23 years here but that doesn’t mean much. Apart from the uncertainty about which version to download online, is there another purpose for USB? I only have one reliable USB drive left, which I use for fresh Windows installations (it’s tough because it handled two hours of washing machine operation without a cap). I won’t use this drive for anything other than Windows.

I never claimed I wasn't certain about the version the via Internet feature would install. What I'm stating is yours. From online videos, it seems the BIOS EZ Flash 3 (the method for updating via the internet) indicates the version you're targeting. It's a smooth process overall, though I've favored USB connections. Everyone's preference is different.

You might want to give it a shot and check how easy it is to update through the internet feature. I haven’t tried it before because I struggled to understand the instructions clearly.
