She’s frustrated with McAfee’s impact on her computer. Several issues bother her, but the biggest annoyance is how it forces her to switch back to Google search every time she turns off the system because McAfee insists Yahoo is the only safe option. She’s stopped using McAfee and is now unsure what alternative to choose, especially since she doesn’t trust Windows Defender on her Windows 11 device. While I think Defender works fine, I’d prefer to check out what others recommend. I’ll answer any questions and add any details I’ve missed.

A good free option would be Avast. Just keep an eye out for a few checkboxes during setup to avoid unnecessary features—some seem extra. I think it also needs you to install the Avast Browser, which you can skip in the box if you like. Otherwise, it’s one of the top free choices.

Sophos stands out as the sole trusted antivirus solution I suggest. It performs well while remaining discreet.

I mean someone who used McAfee (lolololol) obviously has no clue,no offense! Defender is simply the best theres no way around it... Good when coupled with MWB also (the *free* version because the paid version is actually more annoying)

A bit off the main point, but why combine Windows Defender with another antivirus like Malwarebytes? I think Windows Defender alone should handle most protection, but this comes from someone who prefers skipping antivirus entirely. I haven’t heard much about MalwareBytes, but I’ll check it out.

She relied on McAffee yet doubted Windows Defender?!, She flipped the order. Windows Defender is the choice I suggest.

Malwarebytes offers extra tools such as quarantine and antispam.
Sophos is a well-known program that has been around for a while.
I’ve used Avira for a long time before Defender became popular.

Make sure to remove that completely. It wasn’t easy to find the right way, but I had to use their specific tool. This program was already installed on my laptop.
