Need the help for PSU
Here’s a rephrased version of your text:
My setup details: CPU is an I5 4590 (4th generation), GPU is a Zotac GTX 960 with 4 GB RAM, motherboard is Geonix H-81 (OEM). Storage includes G.Skill Ripjawsx RAM (8 GB total, 2x4 GB), a 1600 MHz SSD, and a Samsung 870 Evo 500 GB SATA drive (up to 2 TB max). The PSU is a Corsair VS 550 from 2013.
Issues I’m facing: Whenever I attempt to launch a game, the system freezes and restarts. I’ve ruled out connection or driver problems. After some research, it seems there’s an issue with the PSU or GPU struggling under load or overheating. I ran FurMark to test the GPU, which crashed immediately when the program started.
To confirm, I swapped in a used 650W PSU from a friend. It had worn-out connectors and was similar to my own unit. After connecting everything except the PSU, GPU, SSD, and RAM, and adding just a case fan, the system booted normally. When I ran FurMark at full settings (1920x1080) for 5 minutes, it didn’t crash—GPU stayed under 62°C, then reached 83°C overall and 90°C for the core. Power consumption peaked at 120W when running.
Disconnecting the PSU revealed that my original unit was failing. After swapping it out, the system crashed again. Removing the GPU and reinstalling it caused the crash too. Now I’m considering upgrading to a better PSU.
For future upgrades, I want 8 HDDs, at least two SATA HDDs, one M.2 NVMe drive, and a PCIe X1 slot. Ideally, I’d like an 8-core SSD and more storage options. I found a couple of PSUs online that might suit my needs—here are some links for reference:
- Antec NE650 Gold – https://mdcomputers.in/antec-ne650-gold.html
- Antec Neo Eco Neo-750-80 Plus Gold – https://mdcomputers.in/antec-neo-eco-ne7...-gold.html
- MSI A750 GL-PCIE – https://mdcomputers.in/msi-mag-a750gl-pcie5.html
Please let me know if you think any of these will work well for my build. Thank you for reading!
Thank you for reviewing both of us. The site doesn't offer a 10-year warranty, only a 7-year one, which makes me a bit puzzled. Regarding the Corsair RM 750e versus the NVMe connectors, it's a higher-end option but does come with a bigger price tag. Also, I'm not sure if your current NVMe card is compatible with older M.2 drives—does it support backward compatibility? The MOBO manual seems generic and doesn't provide specific details for your model.
