Dead Ringer works well when you understand the map layout and know where health packs and ammo are located (DR & Stock InvisiWatch chew up your cloak time, replenished by metal). Cloak & Dagger suits those who prefer stealthy exploration on maps with lots of metal or want to gather intel without revealing your position. Enthusiasts Timepiece & Quackendirbt are updated versions of Stock InvisiWatch. Ambassador fits players with strong reflexes and a preference for headshot accuracy; otherwise, go with Stock Pistol. The L'tranger is useful for quickly regaining cloak using InvisiWatch or Dead Ringer, though it’s less helpful for C&D users. Enforcer shines when you need extra damage output after a failed stab-kill and want to alert nearby enemies. Diamondback helps if you’re fast and precise with Sappers. Big Kill is a reworked Stock Pistol with a knife, ideal during the learning phase (Black Rose is a variant), while Kunai offers high-risk, high-reward healing when health drops to 60. Your Eternal Reward suits those who can chain stabs silently, turning foes into disguises—though you can’t hide until your first successful backstab. Wanga Prick is a reskin of YER, Big Earner boosts cloak slightly (always 100) after killing with it regardless of the accessory, Spy-Cicle matches Stock Knife’s damage but is quiet like YER, turning victims into ice statues without alerting others, and will remove the Spy if they’re on fire. For Sappers, the Default is my go-to. Red Tape Recorder reduces structures until you’re gone, Ap-Sap is a Portal 2-themed Sapper from Wheatley, and Snack Attack is another Sapper rework. That’s the full picture of the gear.
Stay quiet, keep your position and focus solely on the payload. It looks like it doesn’t function well in other settings. Excited to see another TF2 gamer joining the chat!
I would suggest watching some of StabbyStabby's videos on youtube and study how he moves about the maps. The setup I use is ambassador, spy-cicle, dead ringer, and stock sapper. You basically need to stay in the back ground, act as though you are on the other team, on payload, disguise as a friendly pyro and fein your death and then disguise as the other team. Attack only when there is an easy kill or your DR is fully charged. You need to use alternate routes on the map to get behind your enemy. If there is an engineer with a teleport, sap the tele and then stand on it. When you teleport you will tele-frag the engineer. When disguising, disguise as pyro, scout(if you're coming from your side), spy, or sniper because they will give you normal move speed. I would suggest getting a trick stab map in order to practice stair stabs and side stabs. Find key targets which are usually engineers, medics, and sometimes snipers. If you can kill a medic, your team will have a huge advantage with uber. Dropped weapons are also a great way to refill your watch/DR. You can make an even more convincing death by getting "killed", uncloaking and then getting "killed" again. If the team is on the offensive and pushing into your team, take some shots with the Ambassador in order to distract the other team. If the medic is protected by a pyro, the Ambassador is very useful as well. Hope this helps in some way. May be hard to understand but this is a lot of what you need to know to be a descent spy.
