Need some help figuring out why my computer keeps restarting when I turn it on?
I changed the thermal paste yesterday, but a black screen made it tough. So I took out the CMOS battery for a reset. After 5 minutes, I put the new CMOS back in and the PC powers on/off all the time. There is no BIOS, nothing works. I need to unplug the power cable just to stop this loop. Now I am looking at my options because I have some spare money, thinking about upgrading. My current setup: - Asrock B450 Steel Legend. - CPU : Ryzen 5 - 5500. Possible upgrades: 1 . I try to fix the problem myself but I don't know how to do it. 2 . I upgrade my PC which would cost me around $500 or more. - intel core ultra 7. - Gigabyte B860M Aorus Elite. 3 . I buy a Mac Mini and move my hard drives into a NAS. My needs: - Video editing and encoding. - Photo editing. - No gaming games. Please let me know which choice makes sense?
Hi, it looks like your motherboard is power cycling. This usually happens after a CMOS reset since you just did that. It can take a few minutes to finish the process. The computer turns off and back on by itself because it's resetting the motherboard settings to their default values before starting up again. Then it posts and boots into Windows. The motherboard is actually retraining how it stores information in the RAM and checking all hardware to make sure everything works right before starting a post and booting into the OS system. Please wait about a few minutes for this power cycling step since it needs time to finish properly, then your computer should automatically start up. I hope that helps. Please tell me if you see any red lights on the board while it's turning on or not, like the CPU, RAM, or VGA LEDs. If they stay red and it still won't turn into Windows, let us know. But if all those green lights show up, then you are good to go.
