I just set up Windows (reinstall, avoid messing with partitions), and I’m looking for solid security software. I previously relied on Avast! and Malwarebytes for free, but Avast has become a bit too aggressive. Do you have any suggestions?

These programs appear to offer strong protection at no cost. They provide decent security, though basic coverage is sufficient as long as you're cautious about the files you install.

I rely on Avast. It works well, though you might be annoyed by the constant reminders to purchase it.

I wouldn't recommend security software, but Microsoft Security Essentials should work well

Most effective protection comes from basic awareness. I've relied solely on Malwarebytes for a year without encountering any threats. Of course, always maintain backups of your system—such as full images weekly—to safeguard against situations where your OS gets compromised.

I rely on Trend Micro, though some seem indifferent. Their service has always worked well for me. I haven’t encountered any viruses in roughly 1.5 years. It consistently prevents suspicious popups from appearing as threats. Note: If you’re looking for something free, I don’t offer that. I’m the one paying, so they can handle issues remotely if needed.

Stay safe by understanding and applying logic. Avoid emails from unfamiliar senders—don’t open them. Refrain from clicking on suspicious links and never download files from untrusted sites. I haven’t encountered a virus or keylogger in about seven years, and I rely on Windows’ built-in firewall.

Massive, right? Software really works only if you engage with tough links or emails or allow USB drives to connect.
