Need LAN and WiFi assistance?
I’ve simplified it first: I’m having trouble with my LAN drivers and Discord connections cutting out. I used a USB WiFi adapter for the router, but it still doesn’t work well. I’ve checked positions of the antenna and settings, but nothing seems to help. Possible causes could be interference from nearby metal or the human body. Windows Defender/Firewall isn’t blocking anything. Longer version: My issue is with the Intel I219-V driver on my Asus Z170-A motherboard. Updating or rolling back didn’t fix it, suggesting a hardware problem. There are two LED lights on the port—one yellow, one red. I reset CMOS and tried a full internet session, but the problem persists. Anyone have ideas? I prefer LAN over WiFi. Cables look good and are working fine.
Here is the updated bio:
Bios refreshed with new details and updates.
The approach to updating BIOS often follows a cautious mindset: "if it works, leave it alone." This means you might avoid problems by not making changes unless you're certain they're needed.
Updating the BIOS is like updating your routers firmware. There is always a risk of bricking the board. BUT BIOS updates also fix issues with the board. So..... yeah. Other devices on the same band. Other nearby wireless networks. Microwave oven. The weather. Any other number of things.
The risk of damaging your board remains low, though it exists. I've refreshed hundreds of bios without encountering any problems. In fact, the biggest issue I've faced was when an OEM Lenovo lost its Windows license during a bios update. I would have updated it.
Sure, I’ll give it a try. I’ll also prepare a backup just in case things don’t go as planned. I’m planning to check out the Intel LAN package from the ASUS website, since I haven’t found that version before.
