I spoke with Intel and will receive a replacement. The BIOS update won’t solve the existing CPU problems, but it might stop the replacement from overheating. Given your current blue screen issues, it’s likely the update could cause further damage. I’m worried about the risk of corrupting the BIOS or motherboard. I tried contacting ASUS, but they said they can’t assist with a custom-built PC. You might want to wait until after installing the new CPU before updating the BIOS. Let me know if you need more advice.

If the installation fails and causes corruption, your board includes Flashback which lets you update to a new BIOS even if damaged. You can apply Flashback without a CPU installed, meaning you might remove the processor and proceed. Your guide doesn't cover Flashback specifically. For some platforms both Flashback and ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 serve similar purposes, though they differ in approach. The manual only provides steps for CrashFree. With CrashFree, it identifies BIOS issues and searches for a USB to retrieve a fresh one. Using Flashback, unzip the BIOS file (not just open it) from the download, then execute "BIOSRenamer.exe" from the unpacked folder. Rename the file using the tool, then insert the renamed BIOS onto a USB drive placed in the top directory, not inside a folder. Power off the PC, connect the USB to the Flashback port, and press the Flashback button. It will flash for 1–3 minutes; once it stops blinking, the process is complete. Typically, format the USB as FAT32. The Flashback button located in the top left (BIOS FLBK) should be positioned over the USB port with the BIOS file visible.
