this will set up the standard gnome desktop, not the altered version from ubuntu 17.10 with the extra keyboard LED. I've tried various methods, but it still doesn't power on. It functions properly on 16.04.
I'll try it, don't worry about breaking anything. I use a CM Storm devastator kit (it's not expensive) and I often switch it on with 'xset led 3' either by hand or in a script I created.
