I experienced a stable router before an electrical issue caused it to stop working. I reset the device and updated DD-wrt firmware without success. Now internet access is only possible via a cable connection after resetting the AP remotely. My router still fails to connect, but I have a compatible dd-wrt model. This situation is confusing—my main concern is understanding the problem rather than tolerating it. What steps should I consider next?

Establish your network connection as usual. (Modem->Router->PC) Disconnect the power from both the router and the modem, then shut down the PC. Reconnect the modem power and wait for it to establish. Connect the router power and wait for confirmation. Restart the PC. If issues persist, the surge might have damaged your router.

I’m sure it’s not locked because I can reach the web interface and adjust settings. I’ve tested turning on power several times, but could you suggest another approach? Also, note that setting DNS to Google DNS didn’t resolve the issue, and the Windows troubleshooter now reports it can’t identify the problem.

Have you confirmed the sequence of steps? Check if your device receives an IP from the router using DHCP. Consider assigning a static address such as 192.168.1.2, given the router's IP is 192.168.1.1.

I cannot power cycle the AP because it isn't mine and doing so would break my lease. It works fine as I can connect and browse via it, just like restarting a PC or router. I've saved a screenshot of the settings menu, and the DHCP has assigned me an IP address. Could you share any additional screenshots that might help?

Two images displayed: one showing the PC directly linked to the modem, another showing the same setup via the router. Both capture the same window details.

The DD-WRT router is linked to the access point via a physical connection.
