RPi2 connected via Ethernet and USB 3.0 drives for storage, using a single 32GB SSD. A 440MB file was uploaded in about two minutes—roughly 3.5 to 4 MB per second. Running Owncloud is the setup.

I was considering nexcloud, tornado, and own cloud. It's hard to pick one. I've been using rsync between devices and a USB backup, which feels a bit tedious when setting things up manually. Trying to build a personal cloud would be quite complicated.

Absolutely, it works. I haven't used Nexcloud or Tornado before, but Owncloud handled everything smoothly and was straightforward to set up—though I did run into some permission issues with the USB mount directory, which seems to be a frequent concern as many results appear online when you search for it.
