You can adjust your laptop's CPU power settings without changing its hardware, but upgrading to a higher wattage in software won't affect the actual power draw. Turning it down to the original wattage in QuickCPU won't cause damage, though pushing it beyond safe limits could harm performance or lifespan.

Usually not. About 95% of laptops come with soldered CPUs, meaning unless you're skilled in precision soldering to reattach a replacement, upgrading the CPU isn't possible.

Consider mentioning the specific laptop model along with its CPU details. Also, be aware that the BIOS may have a block/allowlist defining supported CPUs, so compatibility isn't guaranteed even if the hardware appears suitable. It's unlikely you can purchase mobile Intel CPUs from standard retailers; you should reference @BiotechBen to ensure your message is noticed.

It seems the device is likely using socket FCPGA988. In theory, any CPU with the same socket can be used. For a laptop, I should be cautious about heat generation since it could harm the machine. A pure software fix might not be sufficient. Check the list of CPUs with 35W TDP here: https://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket G2 (rPGA988B).html Possibly a Core i7-3632QM or i7-3540M could work. However, I’m unsure if this upgrade is feasible. There doesn’t appear to be a C55 model supporting higher-end CPUs, so the laptop’s BIOS might not allow it. I’ve seen some discussions about similar issues, but none mention a successful upgrade.
