Need help upgrading your CPU for gaming?
Hi, I'm looking to play next-gen games like Hogwarts Legacy. Can I upgrade my CPU? Also, do I need any other upgrades? Thanks for your help—I'm new to PC building. Your current specs are: Intel Core i5-9600K, MSI MPG z390 Gaming Plus motherboard, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, EG Diamond case. I'm not sure about the power supply and fans but think they're good.
What resolution and configurations do you usually use?
Which country are you located in?
How much are you willing to spend on upgrades? That's a low-quality power supply and it might be affecting your current setup, but it should definitely be replaced with something better—even if you haven't upgraded yet or never did. Such poor quality and performance for a Corsair product are unacceptable.
There isn't really a pressing reason to upgrade your CPU. In gaming, the 9600k (6c/6t) usually ran slightly better than the 8700/k (6c/12t) at launch. If you're considering a change, your best option would be an i7 or i9 from the 9th generation. These will require a superior CPU cooler, such as a Noctua DH-15 or a 280mm AIO (if compatible with your case). I agree with darkbreeze that you'll need a new power supply unit. The CV650 is the only decent choice in the CV line, but it remains a low-quality PSU.
