Need help to slow down my computer's clock speed?

hey, my gtx 960 2gb card is getting really hot because of how fast it runs. when i play a game, the temperature hits 85c at 1290mhz. i want to slow down the clock speed. will underclocking the gpu core cause any issues? will my pc crash if i do that? i need to lower the clock speed so the temps go down.

You might just lose a bit of speed, but you can also try undervolting it.

hi, i cut down my gpu's clock rate, and my heat went up. from 85c to 90c. why does that happen? the max i can get is 90mhz on evga precision. how about lowering it even more?

First, try putting the side panel away from the PC while a fan blows air across it. You might be having trouble getting cool air to flow inside your computer case.

It's better to undervolt it; lowering the clock speed doesn't always lower the voltage, and voltage actually makes temperatures worse.

I used MSI Afterburner with Nvidia debug mode in the Control Panel to make the graphics card run slower, but something went wrong and now I'm getting really hot and my PC is overheatng.
