Need help to plan a PC upgrade (cpu, mobo, ram)
I upgraded my PC in 2018 with a b360pro-vdh, i5-8400, 2400mhz, and GTX1060. Last year I added an RTX 2060Super, but this year I considered upgrading my RAM. My motherboard only supports 2666mhz, so I decided to replace the GPU first. I was thinking about skipping RAM and CPU upgrades, focusing instead on getting a Ryzen processor and 3200mhz RAM. Would the Ryzen 5 3600 be a suitable upgrade from the i5-8400? Is this processor reliable for another 2 to 3 years? I mainly use my computer for gaming, especially RPGs, and I prefer good graphics. I want to avoid making mistakes that would require another upgrade next year. Please help me choose the right components and make a better decision. Thank you!
Wait for Zen 3 and see what it provides. In gaming, the 3600 can offer a solid performance increase in certain titles, particularly those that benefit from additional threads.
Wait for Zen 3. The 3600 isn't really an upgrade when compared to the 8400, especially for gaming right now.
Based on the provided details, your motherboard is compatible with i9 processors. Consider upgrading to a higher-end CPU if possible, increasing RAM to 32GB, and adding an SSD if you don’t already have one. If you possess an SSD, you can purchase a compatible one and implement Raid0 for better performance. Simple upgrades are feasible.
I wouldn't match a 9900/k with that board, as it could slow down the CPU. After all, games don't require 16 gigabytes and that would be a waste of money.
It seems expected to be revealed or launched in the third and fourth quarters of this year, though we can't confirm it yet.
The 8400 remains a strong processor; it would make more sense to wait for Zen 3.
