That's great. I think picking that option will make you super happy. You'll love it on both the graphics and the processor, especially if you want to boost performance. Going overclock means you probably have more room to grow in your 3900X compared to the 3950X.
Yeah, I figured the x570 board will work with Ryzen 4000 chips so I can upgrade my processor. The $300 I saved on buying a new CPU went towards upgrading one of my M.2 slots from 1TB to 2TB and moving the rest into my pocket. So, here is what the whole build looks like: 3900x, Asus Crosshair Hero, G.Skill Royal 3600 RAM, four sticks of 16GB each, a 2080 Ti GPU, an Aorus Master motherboard, Sabrent Rocket 4.0 SSDs (one TB and two TBs), Toshiba X300 hard drives, an Nzxt X73 O11 power supply unit, Corsair fans, and the rest of my peripherals listed above.
Let me ask you one question. I'm pretty sure you have a good reason why and it's totally okay but I just need to mention this thing clearly. Is there a SPECIFIC reason you picked Gigabyte for that graphics card? Well, let me say it loud so no one can argue with me. When it comes to Nvidia cards, EVGA is the best at everything except the quality of parts or after the sale. The XC Ultra gaming and FTW3 models are basically unbeatable right now, and they're among the few special binning models out there. Their customer service is far better than any other hardware company in this game, by a huge margin, and they are the ONLY graphics card maker that lets you add extra years of warranty for almost nothing compared to how much it costs. For anything over 500 bucks, it's like paying 30 bucks to add two more years or 60 bucks to add seven more, but they're the only ones who let you pass that warranty on when you sell a card before it expires so it really adds value. The rest looks okay. I don't know about the QL fans though. If I bought ANY Corsair fans, I'd probably grab their non-RGB Maglev line, but mostly I stick with Noctua (especially now that they have black versions of all their popular models) or Thermalright. Of course, choosing between pure performance and looks is something each person has to decide for themselves because not everyone has the same priorities by a long shot. LOL
Nope. 2x32GB sticks are the deal. Ryzen chips struggle when paired with four DIMMs because they don't get to their full speed. Generally, you can squeeze out around 3200MHz on single rank chipsets like B-die. If you use dual rank setups, things usually drop down to about 2933MHz at best.
The Royals probably come with dummy RAM just for the RGB lighting effect. Unless you really want to go crazy and manually tweak timings or disconnect the Infinity Fabric from the RAM to force manual speeds like C16 3600MHz, stick with that. That said, if you're looking to push harder, Ryzen can switch modes at high speeds. When running 3733MHz, they jump from a 1:1 bus ratio to a 2:1 ratio, which halves your effective speed. Check out that link for more details on RAM overclocking with Ryzen.
For GPUs? You don't need to worry about it anymore because Evga handles everything fine without any issues.
Most people just can't get four sticks faster than 2933MHz to work on an X570 with a Ryzen 3000 CPU. This is totally normal. Overclocking two sticks or making tighter timings is WAY simpler when you only have two DIMMs, even on platforms like dual channel. With four sticks, it's often just impossible. I can easily run two of my 3000MHz sticks at CL15 or speed them up to 3200MHz with CL14. But if you try four sticks, you cannot change the speed or timings from the default profile without getting messed up. Also, since I'm using a Z170 board with a 6700K, which is much more forgiving than most Ryzen chipsets and CPUs, it wouldn't be worth the trouble.
Hey sorry for the late reply I've had some personal things to deal with and shut out the internet world for a bit. I choose the Gigabyte for a few reasons. Firstly ever since I started into the PC modding world some 20yrs ago I have always had good luck using their mb's and gpu's. Even to this day my current system has been running strong for 6yrs on a Giga mobo, and duel 970's. Secondly the price/aesthetics ratio was key for me. As they'll all perform pretty close to the same I choose this card as I'm vertical mounting it, and like the rgb effects this card has. As you probably have noticed I actually like the Rainbow Vomit look, and am trying to get the best perfomance to aesthetic ratio I can. Everything is now bought and paid for just the waiting game for everything to ship. Can't wait to share my performance results!
