MCE mode might get too hot for the NH-D15 to handle on a 9700K. Test your temperatures at Intel's stock settings first, like using only one or two cores at 4.9 GHz, three or four at 4.8 GHz, and seven or eight at 4.6 GHz. I built a rig for my friend with an Asus board that had the NH-D15. It ran 68C under load, so we never turned on MCE mode. My friend didn't need it for surfing or running MS Office anyway.
