Need help overclocking DDR4
I have a 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RGB (CMR16GX4M2C3200C16 v4.31)running on Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7 with Core i5 9600K I run Thaiphoon Burner and it says the DRAM manufacturer is Samsung and Part Number is K4A8G085W[B/C/D]-BCPB I also tried seeing the actual Memory IC and it says SEC 728 K4A8G08 5WBBCPB GEEK939WC I don't know if it is a Samsung B-Die or something else I currently have it overclocked at DDR4 3800 18-22-22-40 1.35v. I tried DDR4 4000 22-26-26-52 1.35v, but it did not even POST.
It's not just about the speed either; there might be other factors at play. Testing for clock stretching could help, even if it runs fast, because a slow memory controller could be causing issues. Also, you can easily check if the system uses DDR4 by looking at the default timings—typically 14-14-14 or similar. Samsung devices usually follow these standards.
It seems the highest speed I achieve is DDR4 3800. I managed to tweak the sub timings and test one setting at a time using TM5 Anta777 Extreme. I increased the voltage to 1.4V for stable performance at tCL 16. Removing the fan caused the RAM sticks to reach 50°C and errors, so I added a fan which brought them down to below 40°C and they are now stable. I experimented with tCL 15 at 1.45V but it didn’t boot. Various POST attempts failed (tREFI 65534, tRFC 280, tRRD_S 4, Command Rate 1). I considered lowering tRDRD_sg to 5 and tWR to 6, but might stick with 6 due to XP at 4 causing stuttering.
