I've been exploring options for a faster router. You need something that supports 1 Gb/s, possibly with PoE and Wi-Fi. I'm looking into recommendations that fit these requirements.

Consider the requirements carefully. You're asking about data rates—whether you need 1 gigaBYTE or 1 gigaBIT per second. Keep in mind that 1GB/s equals one gigabyte each second, while 1Gb/s is one gigabit per second. Remember, a byte contains eight bits. PoE is a specialized feature, so it's unlikely to find routers with both Wi-Fi and PoE built-in. I’d suggest using a standard Wi-Fi router paired with PoE injectors if that’s what you need.

Apologies for the mistake, I meant 1Gb/s. I'll make the necessary adjustments. The POE and WiFi combination isn't typical, which is why I was looking for someone with such experience.

Exactly what limits your router is the data rate you're experiencing, not just the physical connection speed. If you're seeing 10Mbps, it's likely due to Wi-Fi performance rather than wired limits. High-end routers can offer much faster speeds, but devices must match that technology. For wired connections, ports are usually fast enough unless the router is old. 10Gbps is costly, especially with RJ45 adapters, and current options start around $300-$400 for a basic switch. Used listings often range from $200. It's better to identify which devices need this speed and connect them directly using compatible 10GbE NICs for the best results.

You're looking for a high-end setup but your plans are quite basic. Consider dividing the work: get a wired router that meets your needs, not necessarily 10gb or PoE. Invest in a PoE switch and a 10gbe switch if required—unless your internet speed exceeds gigabit, then the switch only needs that level for LAN transfers. For access points, clarify their use: phones, cameras, APs? Many users find injectors sufficient if they have just one or two PoE devices. Explore Ubiquiti products; they cover most essential items.

Some adjustments needed on the details you shared. The current setup uses a DLink DI-514 with 10Gbps capability, which is suitable given the 20+ cameras and Raspberry Pis involved. The wireless connection can be added later as a convenience. This environment supports streaming data from multiple sources, making high bandwidth important. Previously considered options didn’t meet the speed needs, so they’re being set aside. I’m evaluating Ubiquiti EdgeRouter ER-8, an EdgeSwitch ES-24-250W, and possibly a budget wireless router for deployment. I’m open to suggestions if anyone has experience. Thanks!

Your incoming speed is 10gbp/s and you should already have on-premises gear that isn’t DSL. I haven’t seen a 10gb connection without an ONT. The safest approach is to isolate everything—like a firewall or router capable of handling 10gbps will cost thousands (around $10k USD). My previous role used dedicated Ethernet, and the equipment Verizon installed was just over $21,000. You’d then need a PoE switch and AP (such as Ubiquiti) that uses PoE. I haven’t encountered 802.11b in use; that’s definitely from around 2000–2004.
