I have a cable connecting my optical fiber box to the router, then to the Wi-Fi router, and finally to another router before reaching my PC. I previously tried running a direct Ethernet cable from the first router straight to my PC for better speeds, but now I’m experiencing slower performance. My Wi-Fi speeds dropped from 80 to 30 Mbps, while my Ethernet speeds fell from 800 to 100 Mbps. Why does this happen? I thought it would improve things.

Tell me the length of your cable and the type of Ethernet standard it uses. The maximum distance it can reliably transmit data depends on those details.

The ports on the back of the "second" router are rated at 10/100 Mbps. Many consumer wireless routers reduce the Ethernet ports since they aren't always needed.

I checked the connections. The outbound port on Router 1 and the inbound port on Router 2 both work with speeds of 10/100/1000.
