Need guidance on transforming an ATX PC into a mini-ITX? Your support is essential!
I'm on the move between countries and need to transform my full-size ATX computer into a compact form factor suitable for a carry-on. I'm aiming to retain the following components:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900X
GPU: MSI 3080 Ventus 3X 10G OC
PSU: Corsair RM850x 850W 80+Gold
SSD: Several M.2 drives (exact model unspecified, irrelevant)
The goal is to assemble this in a Compact QBX case that fits my size requirements, works with an ATX power supply, and is available locally. I have limited choices in my country.
For the remaining parts, I'm evaluating:
Motherboard: GigaByte B550I Aorus Pro AX
RAM: Kingston Fury Black DDR4 DIMM 3200Mhz PC25600 CL16 - 32Gb Kit (2x16Gb) KF432C16BB1K2/32
CPU Cooler: Master MasterLiquid Lite 240
Please share any feedback on compatibility and suggestions for improvement. Thank you!
I question whether you could comfortably fit the selected cooler inside.
I’d opt for air cooling and lower the clock speed/voltage significantly to avoid temperature throttling. The motherboard’s power delivery system would still generate excessive heat even with a water cooler.
Additionally, verify the GPU length and the clearance for the auxiliary power plug.
Not planning to work today.
PSU won't fit, but the CPU cooler should work with just one fan installed. Using more than one would be problematic because the card has a 2.5 slot, and the available bottom fans are limited to two. The number of M.2 drives also affects compatibility, as the board supports only two.
Do you have any ideas for a cooler that's slim but still strong? Downclocking and undervolting could help avoid performance issues in games. GPU clearance looks promising, as it's smaller than expected.
I used Scythe Big Shuriken 3 in this situation and it functioned well in Fractal Design Node 202. This setup can handle a bigger fan, though if you need water cooling, you'd need to have airflow over the CPU area on the motherboard, which would make a water cooler unnecessary. The Node 202 contained Intel 9900 and 2080 chips, both downclocked and undervolted. It was a great build.
PSU Specifications for PS2 ATX
Maximum PSU Length: 140 mm / 5.5 in
Maximum CPU Cooler Height: 105mm
Note: The RM850x PSU measures 160 mm.
I plan to opt for an air-cooled model, I like them, and I haven't used water cooling before. The case you shared will need me to purchase a new PSU, which is a bit beyond my budget. Could you take a look at this case and share your thoughts?
