I'm on a limited budget for my PC, so I need to decide between buying Windows or getting Linux. If I go with Linux, which one would be better? There are many Linux options available, such as Ubuntu. Since your computer is focused on gaming, you might want something that balances performance and stability.

Debian-based systems are excellent choices. I regularly use Debian with Cinnamon Desktop Environment.

Because your computer is focused on gaming, Windows might be the best choice. You can try an unactivated version of Windows 10 temporarily while you wait to buy a license—the main change is the watermark, but you keep the complete operating system.

I recently removed Ubuntu from my computer and had to admit it was tough to get Steam working. Using Windows would be simpler, but if you have time to read guides, I suggest Linux. It offers more control over your system compared to Windows.

I began with Linux Mint Cinnamon and added Windows 7 around six months later. The choice depends on your interests. If you were still focused on CS:GO, staying on Linux would have been okay. I only needed to expand my Steam library.

I noticed the issue was with the installation process. After installing Linux Mint and adding Steam from the repository, the automatic update occurred smoothly, but once logged in, Steam updated itself again. It seemed the system handled the update correctly during setup, but the subsequent auto-update caused a minor hiccup.

Initially I struggled to download the wine package ("couldn't fix packages"). After resolving that issue, I had to create a symlink between the Steam directory and wine, disable debugging manually, and eventually determine why my headphones were working despite no audio output. Since I was unfamiliar with Linux, it took me a while to get everything functioning smoothly.

Sure, I recommend going with Windows 10.

It's clear you're explaining your setup. You chose a native Linux Steam version and then added Wine for compatibility, resulting in two fully separate Steam installations.

You might want to consider buying Windows for playing AAA titles like Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. It’s a popular choice and can be a good investment given its popularity and performance benefits.
