Hi everyone, I'm trying to join a LAN using the Minecraft Server JAR. Everything looks set up correctly on my desktop, but it doesn't work on my laptop. It shows an error message. Can anyone help fix this? My laptop is connected via Ethernet to the same network as the host computer. Thanks!

Check the firewall settings to confirm if the Minecraft server is permitted.

Only within a local network is the issue resolved. Port forwarding isn't necessary. Additionally, I encountered a new error unexpectedly.

I used the IP address you provided as your machine's internal IPv4 address. On your host computer, it's 10.0.1.24 running on port 5000 (the exact number wasn't important to me).

It seems you're asking about a specific port, which is 25565. Let me know if you need further clarification!

Everyone claims the default port is annoying, but I’ve used different ports before without issues. For example, port 10000 usually worked for me, though this time it didn’t.

Firewall disabled, you attempted to connect via Ethernet. Restart your server.

Only when you plan to expose the server publicly should you do so. Running it on a local network won’t cause any issues.

I understand. After applying the newest 1.10 update, things started working again—like with polar bears and other stuff. It seemed to fix itself after I restarted my laptop... I don’t know exactly what happened, but it worked.
