Need guidance on improving a gaming PC - suggestions for upgrades.
My microcenter is out of stock for the 5700x3d, but it could be useful for gaming. Perhaps offering a box with an x3d CPU and the 3080ti would be ideal for 1080p, and maybe extend it to 1440p. This video might provide some useful insight. Even though it focuses on the 5700x3d, the charts include many current CPUs, giving a good overview.
I understand the usual 5800x tends to overheat. The x3d might behave differently, so checking it could be worthwhile. It might make sense to use a Thermalright peerless assassin cooler or an airflow device to help manage the temperature.
My 5800x could be controlled using just a Vetroo V5. They might overheat, but it's not too tough to keep cool compared to newer CPUs.
The temperatures with the 5800x3d aren't the main issue, if anything it might be the coolest it gets. Once it drops around 90°C it will just stop boosting. The Thermalright cooler mentioned earlier isn't expensive and should work well.
I had a promise about a new PC, but I wasn't sure I'd upgrade my old one.
If I were assembling one for myself with a 1080p 244 monitor, I think I'd likely get this.
