You're wondering if upgrading your Wi-Fi adapter from 300 Mbps to 1000 Mbps will noticeably boost your PC's internet speed. Your current setup downloads games at 3-5 Mbps, while your dad's rig runs at 10-25 Mbps with a built-in modem. The difference could be significant depending on the bandwidth you get from the new adapter.

It relies on your specific WiFi setup. Both the router and your device must support higher data rates, not just one side. Additionally, you didn’t specify your internet connection speeds—if yours can’t manage faster transfers, then even a high-performance access point won’t improve your downloads.

Also, I didn’t realize I was talking about this—just testing a stock shaw modem.

No, I didn't assume that. This term refers to a specific device or feature that might not be widely understood.

Flip it, on the back it would mention the maker of the modem, such as Huawei, Motorola, Zte, etc. You can't exceed the speed the modem provides, which is usually your dad's limit. If the modem only supports 500mbps, you won't get faster than that, so using a 1000mbps connection won't make much difference. Many things affect your Wi-Fi performance, but distance from the modem is often the biggest factor.
