CPU type, mobile processor, RAM capacity, GPU specifications, and how the system responds when powered off. Also, note any visual cues like beeps or the numlock light behavior. Let me know if you need anything clarified!

the machine appears functional (powering up with light from the motherboard and graphics card, fans running), but there’s no output on the screen and the keyboard isn’t responding.

I press the power button firmly for a moment, and it immediately shuts off

Pressing the num-lock, scroll-lock, or caps-lock buttons causes the 3 LED lights (typically above the number pad) to turn on and off.

I just tried it out, and pressing any of those buttons causes an immediate response.

I checked to make sure your PC wasn’t responding properly. From now on, things will become more challenging. 1. Strip away all unnecessary hardware components and test if the issue continues. Your i7-6700 includes an integrated graphics, so you can remove the GTX980. Try with just one RAM stick at a time—switch between slots to see which one works. No need for a hard drive; just do these steps sequentially. Start with the GPU and move forward. 2. Build a custom setup by disassembling your PC completely and reassembling it on a flat surface. There could be small obstacles like stuck screws or washers interfering with connections.
