I really don’t understand what I’m doing, and this doesn’t seem logical to me, so I’m reaching out for assistance. I’ve run speed tests on both my PCs here—one connected to Wi-Fi and the other directly linked to the router via Ethernet. The connection on my server machine is poor, especially since it’s plugged straight into the router. The Ethernet cable looks good, but it’s Cat8 rated at 40GB.

Did you check the other PC to confirm it matches the game server’s performance? It comes down to whether your router supports configurable ports—there might be limits, and you may need to adjust them for optimal speed. The cable length could also affect performance slightly. Additionally, consider if your network card settings are optimized (speed and duplex off) and check the brand of your router or modem.

The cable measures 10 feet, and the device I own is an ASUS RT-AX82U (AX5400) Dual Band WiFi 6 Extendable Gaming Router. There are two images in the post, with the one showing the faster download speed displayed on the WiFi screen.

Have you adjusted the Router settings? You might be using QOS, which can limit your wired performance. Try logging into the router and disabling it.

I disabled QoS, but the server PC didn’t show any improvement, and the ping remained high at about 90. On my main PC connected via WiFi, the download speed dropped to half and the ping increased to 400.

I suspect there might be a configuration problem, as the QOS shouldn't have triggered the ping 400. Consider resetting the router to its default settings. Note the current wireless name, router IP address (likely 192.168.1.1), and password so you can apply changes quickly.

QOS problems are probable. Is your computer connected to the "gaming" port? What level of priority is enabled? The website advises that your router automatically manages traffic prioritization by default.

If you own a Cat 6a cable, try it out. My past experiences with these higher-grade cables haven’t been great.
