I'm trying to configure a deducted Minecraft server on a machine I don't use, but it's having issues getting started. When I launch it, it runs for a short time then crashes with a message about being overloaded. It shows the server lagging at 11385ms or behind by 227 ticks. I can join before it stops. My system is a Core i3 6100 with 16GB RAM at 2133MHz. I downloaded the server from the official Minecraft site and followed the tutorial video.

Check if your device is connected through Ethernet and identify your network router.

It wouldn't be very helpful to run the server on the same CPU as the game. Minecraft uses a lot of processing power, and an older dual-core processor isn't ideal for hosting.

You're seeing 600 Mbps both ways with your Verizon g3100 and Ethernet connection, but the Ookla speed test shows a different number. This can happen due to network congestion, router settings, or other factors affecting performance.

the i3 6100 runs on its own device, and i’ll only be using it to host the minecraft server. the actual gameplay will happen on another separate computer.

An I3 isn't sufficient for the newest Minecraft releases. The game is poorly built and prioritizes basic performance over anything else. Consider using version 1.12 or earlier before Minecraft becomes unstable.

For your MSDI B150, the latest Minecraft 1.16.2 should run smoothly on your current setup without needing a new motherboard.

I don’t own a laptop and prefer not to upgrade my mainboard either. Is there a CPU that could handle a 1.16.2 Minecraft server on an MSI B150 MATTE motherboard?

Search for the top i5 option available there—it should be affordable and capable of handling a Minecraft server without modifications.
