I've experienced an unusual problem with my internet connection recently. It began one day when I was using the usual service and then suddenly became extremely slow. I have a 20Mbps plan with 26ms latency, which should provide about 1/7 of the download speed—roughly 1.9 to 2.1mbps for upload. However, this is where things got strange. When I ran a speed test, it reported download speeds between 0.5 and 1.5 mbps, while my upload remained stable at around 2.1 mbps. After checking everything I could find online and even contacting my ISP, they suggested sending a technician to my house if needed. They mentioned a potential issue with the back of my motherboard. Eventually, after replacing the port, everything functioned normally again.

Since then, I've been using my cheap laptop as a desktop with Ethernet, and it worked perfectly until last night when the same issue resurfaced. While watching Twitch, the connection dropped repeatedly—video quality dropped from 360p to 160p, and buffering continued. I’ve tried resetting the router, updating drivers, connecting only via Wi-Fi, and even switching to a different streaming platform. Still, the problem persists.

Someone please help or suggest other solutions I haven’t tried yet.

Tell me your ISP and the specific package you're using. Are you on cable (Coax) or one of the broadband options like ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, or VDSL2? Also share the details about the computer involved and any other devices connected to the network.

Telbo Bonaire supports 20Mbps only internet via ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+/VDSL(2+) Connectivity features include a Ga z-170 Gaming 6 motherboard, Intel i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, and an RTX 1060. Latency is e5430. Most devices connected via Wi-Fi work fine, though I haven’t noticed bandwidth limits. For peripherals, I use a Wi-Fi extender.

Having more gadgets linked to the internet through your router can cause congestion. If your motherboard seems to be failing, consider swapping out your DSL modem for a fresh one to potentially resolve the issue.
