I've configured everything properly. 5.1 surround sound functions correctly, but when you enable it, front-left and front-right audio appears distorted—very faint with no bass. In contrast, stereo or stereo direct play sound clear and balanced. There seems to be an issue with the surround sound settings interfering with the audio output. Would you like me to check the configuration for any conflicts?

Consider checking the sound blaster panel, select the first button in the upper right corner and choose "Restore default." This resolved the issue on my Zx with the Logitech 5500Z. The bass levels returned to normal after a software glitch from Creative. It’s been a long search for a fix. Good luck!
