For beginners, I’m not familiar with AMD CPUs or motherboards since this isn’t my usual setup. However, I was asked to assist in assembling it. I need to check if the board designed for the second generation Ryzen will fit the 3600 processor. If it does, I’ll need to follow specific steps—possibly updating the BIOS and possibly installing a third-generation Ryzen chip inside.
I mistakenly included it—there’s a Gigabyte B450-Gaming-X AM4 motherboard. The issue is that all these components were new, so there isn’t a second-gen Ryzen compatible. Just to be clear, I didn’t assist in choosing the parts; he came to me after ordering them.
It mentions compatibility with a Ryzen 3000 desktop, indicating it’s suitable.
I checked the site mentioning only the 2000 series. There might be early stock without updated BIOS, especially if users in Australia with newer Ryzen motherboards aren’t using them yet—so there’s a risk it could lack the correct BIOS. Regarding AMD, they still offer upgrade options like boot kits to refresh the BIOS and return CPUs for updates.
This was my worry since some sites claim compatibility with the second generation, while others mention the third generation. I believed they would provide an Athlon for updating the BIOS and then return it to them.
