Hello,
I’m seeking guidance on overclocking my PC. Could you share useful programs, warning signs, and product recommendations like cooling solutions, fans, or better power supplies?

Here’s my current setup:
CPU: AMD FX 4100 Quad Core
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800)
Motherboard: ASRock 990FX EXTREME3
GPU: XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870 2Gb GDDR5
HDD: WD Black Desktop 1TB SATA 6.0 GB/s 7200 RPM 3.5-Inch
PSU: Cool Power Gamer CP-G980 980W

I’m considering replacing the graphics card with another model for improved graphics and am also thinking about whether to buy a new single card or upgrade one.

I’d appreciate suggestions on overclocking this build and possible upgrades. I’m not very experienced with voltage settings, but I’d welcome any resources or articles that explain things better.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would replace the CPU with an FX6300 and consider it a great choice for that setup.

I would upgrade the CPU to the FX6300 and consider it a good choice for that setup.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m also thinking about going even higher, maybe with an eight-core processor... Since I use this PC for demanding games, would that be too much?

The issue with 8core on your board lies in its power phases, making it difficult to handle 125-watt TDP CPUs. This should work well with the 6300, a significant improvement over the 4100.

The issue with 8-core processors on your board is related to power phases, making it difficult for 125-watt TDP CPUs. It should work well with a 6300 chip compared to a 4100. I bought an EVGA Geforce GTX 970 4Gb and an EVGA SuperNova 850W PSU, wondering if the current CPU would cause a bottleneck for my GPU.

This current setup will slow down the GPU performance.

Your current setup might cause a GPU bottleneck. The AMD FX6300 has been ordered to prevent this issue. Would you like any additional advice?
