Hey there, I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my 9800X3D. When the CPU load hits around 90%, it drops to about 90°C and draws 152W—really hot! It's also drawing a lot of power, which is odd. In games, I notice the same thing when I turn on FSR and use a 1440p monitor; CPU usage jumps to 25-30% but temps climb to 75°C. At 25% load it's not normal, especially since it usually doesn't behave like this. Yesterday my PC even entered safe mode and didn’t shut down properly, which has caused some instability. What should I do? Should I lower the voltage or update the BIOS? Need some advice, LogicalDrm.

It's a tough chip to chill down. My 9800X3d OC-ed at 5.3Ghz all-core hits 95°C during peak load for 10 minutes (Vcore around 1.175v likely). Keeping it cooler would need a 420mm Arctic Liquid Freezer III. If you really need more cooling, under-volting could help.

Don't stress, using an 8-core chip usually handles quick downloads and installs smoothly but can get warm for a short time. Switching to a 16-core chip keeps things cooler throughout.

FitGirl, the long-running piracy platform, caused my CPU issues after I downloaded a game from it. The user mentioned it's likely because of the extremely compressed files packed into a tiny installer.

To achieve a stable core voltage, look for "core voltage" in the BIOS OC settings, choose the override option and set it to 1.15v. Run a CPU-heavy benchmark for at least 30 minutes. If the voltage remains steady, gradually reduce it in small steps; if it fluctuates, adjust by about 0.01v at a time. At 1.15 volts, stability may be limited at regular speeds, but it could work for enthusiasts aiming for the lowest possible voltage. Most users rely on PBO settings, though I’m not very familiar with them. You might also explore the AMD guide at the provided link. Be prepared to reset CMOS if settings become too unstable, preventing the PC from starting. Edit: a helpful tutorial is available there.

It could be due to excess thermal paste or possibly your fan speeds aren't adjusted until the CPU reaches higher temperatures.
