You can apply the Windows installation tool to upgrade your system using the SSD once you install it.

You can duplicate your existing hard drive onto the SSD, making it function exactly as before. Just ensure the drives are similar in size or you can adjust accordingly.

The media creation tool is suitable for performing a fresh installation on your SSD. Avoid cloning—it’s not a good approach.

It’s a smart move for those who gather dust and trash. Keeping your OS updated means cloning saves time—no more fumbling through downloads or resetting settings. Just press a button and everything’s ready in just 20 minutes.

Yeah sure, and then 2 months later a windows update comes out and fails to install properly, making your PC almost unusable, then gets stuck when you try to revert the update and refuses to boot, and you end up having to clean install to fix it and use a second PC to get your data back. So easy and convenient!

There are hundreds of thousands of others like you. It seems you haven't been on the forum long enough to notice all the posts about people struggling with cloned PCs. Try searching "issues after cloning" on Google for real-life examples of problems.

Cloning becomes easier when done correctly. Avoid copying to smaller storage devices. Partitions are irrelevant as long as you track them. Never perform this on a system originally built by an OEM, since they alter Windows recovery settings (though those can be managed). It’s unclear how Windows update issues connect to this. Cloning is typically carried out before the OS loads, so Windows remains unaware of changes. Issues arise only when incorrect tools or methods are used. Cloning isn’t suitable if you purchased a 1TB SSD with plans to add a boot drive. Absolutely not. That’s the kind of mistake someone would criticize. Before dismissing something outright, give it a try or at least learn how it works. Clearly, you’re reading some heated discussions and thinking it’s malicious. Also, a handful of threads don’t prove anything; they just show many people are uncertain about what they’re doing. Perhaps some were misled or believed in the supernatural.

There are countless discussions online about problems after cloning. A single change might have no effect or could seriously damage your system. When checking reviews for Samsung SSDs, most negative feedback centers on PC failures after cloning. You can ignore the negatives, but they don’t solve all the challenges people face post-clone/migration. The best approach is to perform a clean install rather than just copying files.
