Hey there, I'm curious about setting up a new machine and its operating system. You're using Windows 7 now, and you're wondering if you can run it on your upcoming build or use any OS from a hard drive. Remembering Luke's advice about saving costs with existing drives, that's a smart approach! Let me know if you need more details.

Install the operating system on your new PC. Open Microsoft’s automated activation phone line and enter your license ID; the system will then generate an activation ID.

You can either transfer the data or disable the license, then install a Windows 7 ISO and enter the product key.

The activation might face issues because the license is linked to the physical device. This could breach the terms of the license agreement.

If you possess a retail license, it remains independent of the hardware. You're free to relocate it as often as needed, provided you detach it from the prior setup. For an OEM license, you might contact Microsoft and inform them about your outdated motherboard.
